Order Asterales, Family Asteraceae, Genus Symphyotrichum
Symphyotrichum ascendens has recently been reclassified from Aster, where it was named Virgulaster ascendens.At this time, there is only one very high altitude Aster, Aster alpinus, in North America, all the others being Eurasian plants.
