Order Asterales, Family Asteraceae, Genus Townsendia
I photographed this plant and its community on April 2, 2008, a week after I first saw them. They got snowed on in the interim. The earliest photos I have were taken on March 19, 2017, but the clumps were not yet well developed. Definitely an early spring bloomer preceding both Noccaea montana and Pulsatilla patens.
