Order Caryophyllales, Family Cactaceae, Genus Pediocactus
This beautiful plant grows in our meadows and in sunny places in the woods. The flowers range in color from bruight pink to pale gold. The largest ones I've seen are about 6" in diameter. Wikipedia and Southwest Colorado Wildflowers have more information.
