Chenopodiaceae (Goosefoot Family)

These plants, though they appear weedy, are native. Related to spinach, they have been used as food plants by Native americans, who harvested volunteer chenopods that grew in thier gardens. My family used to enjoy Lamb's Quarters whenever we could, steamed, with lemon, butter, and salt. Chenopods are placed in Amaranthaceae by the APG III, but Native American Flora and Flora of Colorado (Ackerfield) retain Chenopodiaceae.
