Order Fabales, Family Fabaceae, Genus Astragalus
I have keyed out seven Astragalus species in our area.
They can be distinguished from Oxytropis species by their rounded keels;
Oxytropis has pointed keels.
Pods are very important in identification also. Wikipedia and Southwest Colorado Wildflowers have more information.
The pods with their fine black hairs are diagnostic for this Astragalus.
