This plant is variable, and may hybridize with L. caudata. In our area, white flowers predominate, and blue ones are rare. Some sources divide L. argenteus according to color, with L. argenteus ssp. ingratus being white, and L. argenteus Pursh being blue. Lupin is sometimes spelled Lupine.
