Order Pinales, Family Pinus, Genus Abies
This beutiful tree does not occur nasturally in our area, although I have heard a rumor of such a stand, but I haven't seen it personally. Its natural range is further south. Wikipedia and Southwest Colorado Wildflowers have additional information.
Several of these trees grow on our neighbor'sproperty.
Male cones grow in the lower branches. The needles grow singly and curve mupward.
Male cones are small and red.
Female cones grow at the top of the tree.
