3.6 Flood Hazard

With few major streams within the Planning Area, flood hazard is minimal. However, Map Sheet No. 2 in the Geology Element of the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan designates several drainages in the Planning Area as high hazard flash flood zones. In the South Boulder Creek watershed the designations include Winiger Gulch and Forsythe Creek and its tributaries. In the Middle Boulder Creek watershed the designations include Hawkin, Keystone and Calhoun Gulches as well as lesser drainages trending south to Barker Reservoir. Flood hazards do exist on both Middle and South Boulder Creek. Within the Planning Area, flood hazards typically amount to minor road damage, possible structural foundation destabilization, and introduction of surface contamination into groundwater supplies.
