Recommendations for PUMA
- PUMA should consult with the County and field check wetlands in
the Planning Area in order to determine if significant wetlands were
not documented by the Wright Water Engineers study. Further,
PUMA should work proactively with interested private property owners
to protect these wetlands.
- The County should be urged to modify the
specified minimum distance (from 50 feet to 100 feet) between septic
systems and surface water for all new and expanded construction.
- Residents should be urged to participate in
a timed water sampling (seasonal) for metals, organ
- Residents are encouraged to periodically
test their well water, particularly for fecal coliform counts,
especially if a given well is within 300 feet of a septic system.
The Boulder County Health Department (contact number: 303-441-1180)
has certified tests available to the public. The Health Department
will also facilitate other tests, including metals, that are
available from Colorado State University.
- Well water downslope of historical mines
should be periodically checked for heavy metal content and
contamination by other leachates.
- Isoclines for aquifer levels should be plotted from existing sources of well
data to determine general drainage patterns. These data could help in determining
the likely sites of future contamination patterns or water-flow modifications
in local aquifers and surface water.
