Appendix 7.3 County Road 68J and Forest Road 359 Monitoring Results
CR 68J area:
Eleven volunteers monitored CR68J
from April 5, 1997 to October 19, 1997 for a total of 28 survey
days. Surveyors walked the road and noted inappropriate/illegal use
on a form. Data were compiled by noting on how many different days a
specific problem occurred. The results of the surveys prior to spur
road closure and sign and gate installation (e.g. before May 17,
1997, five survey days) are as follows:
- inappropriate vehicle use: 3 days
- shooting: 1 day
- littering/dumping: 1 days
- Sheriff notified: 1 day
The results of
the surveys after spur road closure and sign and gate installation
(22 survey days) are as follows:
- inappropriate vehicle use: 7 days
- unsafe fire/illegal fire ring: 3 day
- shooting: 5 days
- littering/dumping: 6 days
- excessive noise: 4 days
- illegally parked cars: 5 days
- illegal camping: 3 day
- stolen item from private property: 1 saddle from Jimmy Keith
- Sheriff notified: 2
- Forest Service notified: 1
Forest Road 359 area:
Nine volunteers monitored
Winiger/FS359 from April 6, 1997 to October 1, 1997 for a total of
26 survey days. Surveyors walked FS 359 and noted
inappropriate/illegal use on a form. Data were compiled by noting on
how many different days a specific problem occurred. The results
of the surveys are as follows:
- inappropriate vehicle use: 17 days
- unsafe fire: 6 day
- shooting: 4 days
- littering/dumping: 10 days
- excessive noise: 1 day
- Sheriff notified: 5
- Forest Service notified: 4
- destroyed Forest Service sign ("No vehicle use"): 1
- drinking and driving (open container): 2 days
- human feces/toilet paper not properly buried or disposed of: 2 days
