9.7 Recommendations
In order to achieve the transportation
Vision Statement and Desired Future Conditions, PUMA should focus on
the following recommendations. The County has a strong policy
framework with which to address County Road transportation issues in
the Planning Area, requiring only a few new area-specific policy
statements.
Recommendations for PUMA
- Work with BCDOT to create a transportation plan for the Planning Area that
incorporates a safe, efficient road system with preservation of desirable
neighborhood characteristics and environmental preservation. The plan should
address the transportation issues discussed in this Section of MEPP and Section
7, Recreation.
- Establish neighborhood planning alliances with adjacent neighborhoods to
the south in Gilpin County in order to proactively address growth and transportation
issues.
- Promote car pooling and public transportation as alternatives to single-driver
commuter vehicles.
Proposed Boulder County Policy Statements
PUMA does not support further paving of
Magnolia Road, and supports the following goals:
- The County should encourage non-local and through traffic to use Boulder
Canyon Drive (SH 119) rather than Magnolia Road.
- The County should encourage non-local and through traffic to use Highways 72 and 119,
rather than County Road 97 and Magnolia Road.
- The County should continue to work with CDOT and Gilpin County to maintain and improve
SH 72 as an arterial intended to accomodate through traffic between SH119 and the plains.
